India's Smoking Controls


A ban on smoking in public places has just come into effect in India; accompanying the smoking ban is a prohibition on tobacco advertising and sponsorships and a ban on sales to individuals under 18 years of age. (What's a "public place"? That is yet to be determined in Delhi or in Pune.) The nation's largest tobacco firm has signaled its willingness to be law abiding. One hundred fifty million smokers might be harder to convince.
